Thula thula (pronounced t'ula) is a Zulu
word meaning "hush hush". To be peaceful
and tranquil.
Now we all know that this can be far from what children
are at the best of times, but it is a lovely lullaby I
learnt through my South African husband and is sung in our
home at night, after a busy, busy, day. So the brand
was born, with my two children, today, the proud testers
of the thula thula clothing before it hits the store for your
children.
I'm obsessed with the styling of the 30's and 40's,
when clothing had a purpose, for play, for day or for
evening. Kids could also be kids, yet look great
being one in really simple silhouettes and cuts. I love to
embrace that the adventurous spirit is seen throughout my
range.
I am also the mother of a premature baby. Aiden was
born at 25 weeks, a tough and long road. Today a
healthy and happy young toddler. The journey lead me
to creating a side line of clothing for premature babies
in NICU or Special care, using the knowledge and experience
I gathered from our time in hospital. It is available
in store from March 2010.
From my first plastic Singer sewing machine at 8 years
old, I have loved to create and I am very proud of
thula thula and the praise it is getting from my peers.
